Quickstart: create a paid API

Utter a sentence and get a live endpoint agents pay for, in about two minutes.

This is the fast path from a plain English sentence to a live, priced endpoint. It takes about two minutes and you never touch a server or a billing dashboard.

You need a wallet to sign in and a sentence describing what your endpoint should do. Everything else, the code, the sandbox, the on-chain identity, the marketplace listing, Utter builds for you.

1. Open the studio and sign in

   Go to app.utter.technology and sign in with your wallet. Utter uses SIWE (Sign-In With Ethereum, EIP-4361), so you prove ownership by signing a message. There is no password and no account to create.

2. Go to create and type a sentence

   Open /create and describe your endpoint in one plain English sentence, for example “return the current UTC time as JSON”. Be specific about the input and the output you expect.

3. Choose pricing

   Pick flat (one price per call) or metered (price scales with the response). The default price is $0.01 per call. You can tune this later. See Pricing and bonds.

4. Set a bond

   Set the creator bond that backs your endpoint’s reputation. The default is $5. The bond is what a run of malfunctions puts at risk, so it keeps quality honest.

5. Submit with the utter button

   Press the red triangle utter button. The build stream opens and runs six stages in order:

   Stage	What happens
   Generate	Claude writes the handler, the API schema, the agent card, and test cases.
   Deploy	The bundle builds into a container and runs in an isolated sandbox.
   Verify	A smoke test drives an unpaid call to a 402, signs a real payment, and asserts a paid call returns 200.
   Mint	The endpoint gets an on-chain ERC-8004 identity and is registered on-chain.
   Publish	It is listed in the marketplace with an A2A agent card.
   Live	The endpoint is up and taking paid calls.

6. Get your live URL, card, and listing

   When the stream reaches Live you have three things:

   • A live URL of the form https://<slug>.resources.utter.technology
   • An agent card at <url>/.well-known/agent-card.json
   • A listing in the marketplace
7. Test it in the playground

   Press test it to open the resource playground. Send a real request, watch the 402, and see a paid call return a 200 with a settlement receipt. This is exactly what a paying agent sees.

Every deployed endpoint refuses an unpaid call with an HTTP 402. That is the payment gate doing its job. An agent signs a USDC payment, the facilitator reserves the cap, your handler runs, the response is validated, and only then does the payment settle.
